Family Support
We believe in working together with families and whanau and can help liaise with other services that may be available to each family. Below are some services that can support you. If you would like more information please ask your teacher or at the office about any support you may need.
Dress Code
Students at satellite classes are expected to wear the host school’s uniform. This encourages interaction and inclusion within the school.
Our base school students do not have a uniform to wear and should come appropriately dressed for the programmes in their classes.
Workplace Experiences
Our students aged 16 and older are looking for interesting work experience opportunities. Our students already access a diverse range of workplaces and have many skills in different areas. All of our placements are supported by our own staff to make sure our students work well and gain the skills needed. Our students adhere to Health and Safety policies of each workplace.
If you are interested in offering some work experiences or would like more information, please contact our office and someone will be in touch.
Satellite Programmes
We have a number of satellite classes located in local mainstream schools which allow for social, locational and functional inclusion opportunities. We work closely with host school principals and teachers to maximise the opportunities for our students. These classes continue to receive the full resource and staffing benefit of Sommerville School. As Sommerville is continuing to grow, we also working alongside the Ministry of Education to add new satellites to our network.
